Let us show you magical Finnmark!

5 members of our Sorrisniva team travelled to Oslo from the 10th to the 12th of November to host a special event at the new digital museum, The Viking Planet. With the help of 6Sans, we at Sorrisniva were able to collaborate with Norway’s first digital museum to offer a unique presentation of Finnmark for more than 50 of our partners in Norway’s capital, using groundbreaking VR technology.

With over 20 screens showing images and videos of the experiences and offerings from Sorrisniva, the Viking Planet soon transformed into a taste of Sorrisniva with a dash of viking spirit. Divided into 3 sections, the museum was a walk-through of what we can offer on-site here in the High Arctic: premium outdoor experiences, accommodation, and fine dining culinary experiences.

CEO and founder of Sorrisniva, Tor Kjetil, had a firework of an opening speech as he welcomed everyone to what he described as, our event of the year. It all started with the riverboats, as the third-generation brothers of Hans Ulrik and Tor Kjetil have progressively developed their tourism offering starting with riverboat safaris through the spectacular Alta River canyon in 1970. Sorrisniva offered the first Norwegian snowmobile safaris in 1989 and added the iconic Lavvu restaurant, whose design reflects the Sami tent, in 1992. In 2000 the Igloo Hotel, Norway’s first ice hotel, was built for the first time. And in 2021, after 8 years of planning, the premium Arctic Wilderness Lodge, opened its doors, allowing Sorrisniva to offer accommodation year-round.

Caroline, the lodge manager at Arctic Wilderness Lodge, had the honor of presenting the new 24 room lodge to our wonderful guests throughout the evening, describing how the lodge enables Sorrisniva to supplement our traditional ice hotel and wilderness experiences with year-round premium accommodation together with new panoramic lounge and riverside restaurant areas.

Bram, our sales and marketing manager, presented several packages that can be offered year-round and tailored to any guests needs, as well as introduced some of our newest experiences such as the king crab safari, and helicopter tours, proving that Sorrisniva is For All Seasons.

Helle, our sales manager for Nordic and MICE, showcased the Igloo Hotel, and brought our guests into the world of ice and snow. Many were curious as to what this year’s theme is going to be, but we didn’t want to spoil the fun just yet. To keep updated with the 2021/2022 Igloo Hotel follow us on Instagram or like us on Facebook.

And finally, Katelin, our digital marketer, documented this extraordinary event and captured the essence of how much it means to us at Sorrisniva to be Alta’s premium Arctic wilderness travel destination.

To top it all off we gave away 3 prizes to 3 lucky winners at the end of the event. 3rd prize being a snowmobile safari, 2nd prize being overnight in the Igloo Hotel, and the Grand Prize being a weekend for 2 including overnight in Arctic Wilderness Lodge, a fine dining culinary experience in Maku Restaurant, and outdoor experiences with a total value of over 20,000 nok.

We’d like to thank 6Sans for their role in making this event come to life, The Viking Planet for allowing us to use their high-tech facilities, and the Norske Kokkelandslaget for having a speech about their role in developing our world-renowned fine dining experiences in the new Maku Restaurant and in the Lavvu restaurant. And last, but certainly not least, we’d like to thank all of our guests and partners who participated in the event; we are beyond proud to have been able to present magical Finnmark and Sorrisniva for you all as we enter our first winter season with Arctic Wilderness Lodge.
