On Monday, October 11th, we gathered in the Lobby of the new Arctic Wilderness Lodge and reminisced in where it all started, and where we are now for the Grand Opening of the premium lodge.
“It all started with the riverboats and Alta River”
- Tor Kjetil, General Manager
The Alta River and salmon fishing is a culture that the Wisløff family holds near and dear. Over the years they have expanded their repertoire in order to become a year-round activity provider, by becoming the first to offer Snowmobile tours on the mainland in Norway, and many other experiences such as Northern Light Hunts, Sami and Reindeer experiences, and much much more. And they didn’t stop there, after being the second in the World to build an Igloo Hotel, and thus becoming the Northernmost Igloo Hotel, Sorrisniva wanted to yet again expand on their offering.
In 2013 the plans of Arctic Wilderness Lodge started to take form. The structure and the location of the Lodge became the epitome of innovation, creativity, and design. The construction process started in November 2020, in the middle of the pandemic that shook the Earth. International travel came to a halt, and many wondered what the new normal would look like. Despite the total stop within the tourism industry, Sorrisniva continued their quest to become a year-round accommodation provider. This dream came true on October 1st when they welcomed their first guests to Arctic Wilderness Lodge.
On Monday, October 11th, we gathered in the new Premium Lodge for the official opening, with many of the people who have been a part of this adventure along side us. It was a joy to welcome everyone to Sorrisniva, a joy to introduce a taste of Maku Restaurant, and a joy to cut the rope and open the doors of ArcticWilderness Lodge.
Sorrisniva and the Arctic Wilderness Lodge is officially open 365 days a year.
We look forward to welcoming you!
An Arctic Greeting,
The Sorrisniva Team
